MySpace Frees up Rack Space With RipCode Transcoding SolutionRipCode’s compact, high volume video transcoding appliance allows leading lifestyle portal to reduce hardware and energy footprint. September 17, 2007; 04:56 AM DALLAS, Texas – RipCode today announced that MySpaceTV has completed a successful trial of the RipCode V4 video transcoding solution. This trial sets MySpaceTV apart as the largest video internet site to address the growing volume of video transcodes using an appliance-based solution. RipCode, which today announced the general availability of its V4 video transcoding appliance, designed its solution to process the highest volume of Internet-based video formats available in a single rack-unit chassis. Designed using ultra-fast DSPs (digital signal processors), this high concurrency processing appliance significantly accelerates the re-purposing of video files and enables internet video sites such as MySpaceTV to reduce the amount of hardware, storage and power currently required to keep up with the exploding growth in transcoding online video content. “At some point, companies like MySpace have to look at the amount of resources that are being consumed in order to transcode higher and higher volumes of video content – server hardware, storage capacity, energy usage, data center space and the IT resources required to manage it all,” said Brendon Mills, CEO of RipCode. “MySpaceTV is a perfect example of how RipCode’s transcoding appliance is being used to address these challenges while still maintaining the speed and video quality that MySpace members expect." According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project's first major report on online video, 57% of internet users have watched videos online and most of them share what they find with others. This popularity means that high volume video sites must process an ever increasing number of videos files from a variety of sources and repurpose them for online viewing. “MySpace is committed to meeting our members demand for integrating video and other new media to further enhance and personalize their social networking experience,” said Jeff Berman, General Manager of MySpaceTV. “RipCode’s appliance-based transcoding solution allows us to meet this need.” About MySpaceTV About RipCode
