SoftLayer Deploys cPanel Update Servers
June 27, 2007; 01:35 AM Dallas, TX – Today SoftLayer announced that it has deployed cPanel update servers on the network inside its datacenter to accelerate cPanel installations and updates. Currently the industry-leading server control panel, cPanel provides an easy-to-use and highly-scalable management interface for Linux and BSD servers. “We’re excited to provide this local service with the new release of cPanel 11,” said Joshua Rushe, SoftLayer Director of Operations. “SoftLayer is one of cPanel’s largest partners, and now one of a select number of datacenters around the world with an on-site cPanel update server.” According to Mr. Rushe, having these update servers on the datacenter network will dramatically increase the speed of initial installation, licensing and provisioning. “With a local update repository like this, zero-day patches happen right away—our customers won’t have to wait on the public cPanel peers anymore,” he said. “Combined with our automated OS reload feature, cPanel servers can be re-purposed on demand. This is just another example of how we stay on top of, if not ahead of, all the tools for giving our customers more convenience and control.” The addition of the cPanel update servers directly addresses a large portion of SoftLayer’s customer base. One out of every four servers deployed at SoftLayer utilizes cPanel, making it one of the most commonly used products in its datacenter. “Helping our partners do business more effectively is what cPanel is all about and providing update servers is a great way to do that,” said David Koston, cPanel Operations Manager. SoftLayer’s portfolio of onsite update servers already supported systems and applications from Microsoft, Redhat, McAfee and others.
