FastServers.Net Secures 900 cPanel Servers and Avoids Latest ExploitSeptember 27, 2006; 12:53 AM FastServers.Net, a leading cPanel dedicated server provider, has finalized a massive update effort and secured more than 900 CPANEL servers in less than 48 Hours. The cPanel Exploit, which redirects web site visitors to another website, attempts to hijack Internet Explorer users that have an unpatched browser. The cPanel exploit became public on September 23rd at which time a team of support engineers started the process of updating over 900 managed dedicated servers. In less than 18 hours, the security response team patched over 900 servers, averaging 50 per hour. Out of 900 managed servers zero were exploited. FastServers.Net has also been assisting self managed dedicated hosting customers with applying the patch and answering technical questions about it. FastServers.Net has been a distributor of cPanel since 1997 and been offering managed dedicated servers since 2001. As one of the most used control panels, cPanel is the leading Linux control panel purchased by new dedicated server owners at FastServers.Net. "It was important that we quickly assemble a team to insure the security of our managed clients, this exploit could have damaged server and caused an embarrassment to website owners worldwide. I am very pleased with our security response teams ability to provide what I consider record breaking deployment of the patch." said Matt Doyle, Director of West Operations for FastServers.Net. |
