September 26, 2005; 09:05 AM

Tokyo (JCNN) - Jupiter Telecommunications announced on September 21 the start of a news-on-demand service on October 3 as part of its video-on-demand service J:COM-on-Demand. The new service will store in its server Tokyo Update, Nikkei CNBC Japan's program that provides stock market reports at close via CS digital broadcast on weekdays, so the program will be viewed on an on-demand basis merely 45 minutes after it goes live.

The first of its kind in Japan, the new service will be available to viewers in the Kanto area and in Sapporo. Jupiter Telecommunications will distribute from October 14 a special edition of Money Club, a talk-show program broadcast every Tuesday night on the Nikkei CNBC Express channel on a free-on-demand basis.

The company will also make Utsukushiki Nippon Hyakuno Fukei (Beautiful Japan with 100 Scenic Spots), an NHK program, available in high-definition format from October-end.

In addition, the company started this month distributing movie titles that are owned by CBS Paramount International Television.
