August 25, 2004 - (HostReview.com) - Based on market share data released by IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (sun.com ) today announced its 40th consecutive quarter as the undisputed leader in Traditional Workstation (TWS) unit shipments and revenue with both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year share increases.

"Sun has demonstrated its commitment to Traditional Workstation customers through its ability to maintain its leadership position for 10 years, said Lloyd Cohen, Director of Worldwide Market Analysis for IDC. "Sun's continued innovation and joint development on commodity components, including graphics cards, help to differentiate Sun from the competition and maintain such longevity in this market."

For 10 years and counting, Sun has led the TWS market and continues to extend its lead based on strong demand for its Sun Blade 1500 and 2500 workstations running the Solaris OS. In addition, Sun is making it even more economical for customers to move off legacy platforms and buy Sun Blade and the new AMD Opteron processor-based Sun Java Workstations through trade-in programs and flexible pricing options.

"10 consecutive years of market leadership can only be attributed to listening to the needs of our customers and delivering the best possible technology and price-performance," said Anil Gadre, chief marketing officer at Sun Microsystems, Inc.
