Web hosting provider C I Host has deployed a scalable, flexible infrastructure - featuring MRV's LambdaDriver dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) fiber optic transport system -- in order to meet the explosive growth in its optical network.

The system, which cost more than $100,000 to build and connects C I Host's main facility in Bedford, Texas, to Dallas' largest Telco Hotel, located at 2323 Bryan Street, will provide the network agility the company will need to efficiently and cost-effectively support future broadband service developments.

The new C I Host network integrates best-in-class wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), packet, and time division multiplexing (TDM) capabilities all on a single platform. That configuration will help reduce both capital and operational costs for operators by supporting true convergence of previously distinct network types.

In fiber optic telecommunications, wavelength-division multiplexing is a technology that multiplexes multiple optical carrier signals on a single optical fiber by using different wavelengths of laser light to carry different signals. This enables a multiplication in capacity and makes it possible to perform bi-directional communications over one strand of fiber.
