SAVVIS, Inc. (www.savvis.com), a global IT utility services provider, today announced a new portfolio of managed security utility services it calls the SAVVIS Security Utility. In addition to a variety of dedicated, appliance-based security and security consulting services that SAVVIS already provides, the SAVVIS Security Utility is a flexible and scalable managed security offering that does not require hardware or software to be installed or managed at the customer’s premise.

The SAVVIS Security Utility leverages both “In The Cloud” security components, such as in-network firewalling, distributed denial of service (DDoS) and worm attack mitigation for a wide area network, as well as virtualized security components such as hosted firewalls and intrusion detection systems. All services are managed by SAVVIS and can be monitored by customers via SAVVIS’ web portal which allows users to monitor activity in their environment directly and conveniently. The result is a set of advanced managed security utility services that are ubiquitous to all IT operations and provide for compliance, yet are transparent to IT resources.

By taking a holistic view of security components, and by integrating security management into all IT operations, the SAVVIS Security Utility services are less expensive than that of dedicated infrastructure and allow for better capacity planning. And, by its nature as a centrally managed service, the SAVVIS Security Utility allows for automatic technology refresh as IT threats change and security solutions evolve over time.

Gartner estimates that spending on IT security services will reach $24.6 billion by 2009. IT management services will be the fastest-growing sector.

The SAVVIS Security Utility is a beneficiary of more than 10 years of custom development and a heritage of exceptional network performance. The SAVVIS virtualized IT utility services delivery platform provides every piece of the IT infrastructure – network, hosting, security, storage, and computing – on a flexible and highly scalable basis.

“End-to-end security is an essential ingredient in delivering a viable utility computing solution,” stated Jeffrey M. Kaplan, Managing Director of THINKstrategies, an independent strategic consulting company.
“Security is a top priority for SAVVIS’ enterprise customers,” said Chris Richter, Vice President & General Manager, Security Products and Services, of SAVVIS.

SAVVIS’ security solutions date back to 1987 with the founding of ARCA, the first Common Criteria Test Lab (CCTL) for security testing and certification of third-party vendors’ products for Federal Government use. It now includes legacy security technologies and services developed by Exodus and Digital Island (both subsequently acquired by Cable & Wireless America), as well as security elements of Intel Online Services (acquired when SAVVIS was chosen as the in-place provider for Intel Online Services).

Today, SAVVIS’ comprehensive managed security services offering is backed by a coordinated team of highly skilled security professionals who cover internal security, service delivery operations, professional services, engineering, as well as a chief security office that liaises with government leaders including Members of the U.S. Congress.

In addition, SAVVIS has completed an examination in conformity with Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70, Service Organizations documenting that selected SAVVIS processes, procedures, and general controls have been formally reviewed and evaluated. The systems and processes evaluated in this audit include security monitoring, change management, problem management, backup and environmental controls, logical and physical access.
