SAVVIS, Inc. (www.savvis.com), a global IT utility services provider and one of the world’s largest providers of hosting services, today announced the appointment of Michael Tardif as Vice President and General Manager – Global Hosting Services.

In this role, Tardif oversees SAVVIS’ expanding hosting business and product portfolio. His responsibilities include providing overall direction and strategy, guiding the development of new products and services, identifying and evaluating emerging technologies, and continuing to grow SAVVIS’ market share.

Tardif joins SAVVIS from the Utility Computing Consulting practice of VERITAS, where he assisted businesses with their transformation to a more demand-driven IT infrastructure.

With over 25 years of enterprise IT experience, Tardif is uniquely suited to lead SAVVIS’ Hosting Services business unit. In addition to his position as Vice President of Technology at VERITAS, Tardif served as Executive Vice President Engineering and Operations, and Chief Strategy Officer at Storage Networks, Inc., where he was one of the original employees delivering storage services to Fortune 100 clients. Prior to this, he was Vice President, Global IT Infrastructure, at Goldman Sachs Group, Inc where he led technical operations supporting a 2,000 person global IT organization.

Tardif’s appointment comes at a time when demand for hosting services is rising rapidly. Gartner Dataquest now forecasts North American hosting markets will grow from $6.9 billion in 2003 to $32.2 billion in 2008.

SAVVIS’ virtualized utility services delivery platform is the first to integrate network, hosting, storage, and compute architectures for delivering on-demand utility services to enterprise customers.

“SAVVIS’ visionary approach is leading a C-level change in thinking about the deployment architecture of IT for companies large and small,” Tardif said. “Businesses are increasingly ready to adopt utility services for new applications, legacy systems, and total IT outsourcing.”

Commenting on the appointment, SAVVIS Chairman and CEO Rob McCormick noted, “Michael Tardif’s expertise is a great fit for driving SAVVIS’ vision of virtualizing the entire IT chain from data center to desktop, enabling our customers to lower their IT costs, reduce their risk, and improve business agility.”
