IBM Launches New Platform Management Software
HostReview.com IBM (www.ibm.com) announced today the availability of IBM Director 5.10, popular with customers thanks to its improved ease of use and open, integrated design. With Director 5.10, companies can more easily manage their complex IT environment and help lower costs through management efficiencies and increased system uptime. IBM Director is a widely deployed, integrated suite of software tools that provides a consistent, single point of management and automation for complex IT environments. Among them are Worldspan, a leader in travel technology services for travel suppliers, travel agencies, e-commerce sites and corporations worldwide. Utilizing some of the fastest, most flexible and efficient networks and computing technologies, Worldspan provides comprehensive electronic data services linking approximately 800 travel suppliers around the world to a global customer base. "The new design of IBM Director 5.10 lets us customize the management tools for our environment, and provide hardware level monitoring to internal operations groups," said Steven Senecal, project manager, server engineering, Worldspan, L.P. "IBM worked closely with customers to identify the new capabilities they required and built 5.10 accordingly, extending Director's already strong technology to make it more open and integrated," said Jim Northington, vice president, xSeries high performance division, IBM Systems and Technology Group. Beyond xSeries, the new Director 5.10 extends support to Linux on the IBM zSeries and pSeries systems, as well as the new IBM System z9. Director 5.10 also is the common hardware management component of IBM Virtualization Engine. "The open design of this new release of IBM Director enables customers to centrally manage our Operating System Portability technology," said Stephen Pollack, CEO of PlateSpin. "Our customers ask for rich management capabilities that accommodate the needs of their heterogeneous server environment," said Steve Morton, Altiris vice president of product management and marketing. In addition, Director 5.1 works in concert with and complements the Tivoli elements of the on demand software stack such as Tivoli Provisioning Manager and Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator for customers who require more automation and business orchestration. |
