Oracle and HP to Help Companies Improve IT Service

Oracle and HP (www.hp.com) today announced a new initiative, called "Optimize for Agility," that will help enterprises lower IT costs, optimize IT service levels and improve business agility.

This initiative is based upon an engineering, services and marketing agreement and will deliver service and support offerings for rapid initial deployment, integrated management and dynamic provisioning capabilities to customers worldwide.

Driven by customer requirements for improved return on IT investment and greater alignment of IT service levels with business needs, the goal of the "Optimize for Agility" initiative is to enable joint customers to benefit from virtualized, cost-effective, reliable, and scalable IT resources to be dynamically tapped at any time.

This initiative is backed by service and product innovations, such as the native capabilities of the Oracle 10g grid platform, HP OpenView management solutions and Oracle Enterprise Manager, that will openly exchange events and operational information, allowing for a richer root-cause analysis and problem solving across an entire grid infrastructure.

It also helps customers manage their service level objectives through automatic scaling of software and hardware resources to meet demand. As a result, companies can identify, allocate and reallocate IT resources - from servers to storage to network capacity - to adjust to changes in workloads, technology advancements and business requirements without impacting user productivity.

Additionally, service and support offerings are being delivered by more than 950 Oracle-trained HP Services specialists. Grid Accelerator Services, called HP Express Services, will provide accelerated deployment of Oracle 10g database on HP servers and are initially available in North America and planned in other countries under similar localized programs.

As part of this initiative, Oracle and HP will develop reference architectures that are designed and tested to specifications for optimal deployment of an Oracle grid-computing infrastructure.

Today's announcement will accelerate delivery of these powerful computing capabilities as operating standards for joint customers through ongoing collaborative engineering and product delivery.
