China‘s Linux Software Developer Red Flag Joins OSDL

13:08:26 - 11 January 2005

The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux in the enterprise, today announced that Red Flag Software Company, Ltd., the leading developer of Linux software in China, has joined OSDL and will participate in the lab‘s Desktop Linux (DTL), Carrier Grade Linux (CGL), and Data Center Linux (DCL) working groups.

"Linux is a huge success in China and there is enormous potential for widespread Linux adoption across all market sectors," said Chris Zhao, executive president of Red Flag Software Company, Ltd. "Red Flag is joining the internationally-recognized OSDL organization so that our contributions to Linux and open source development can benefit the global Linux community. Together with OSDL and its members, we intend to share our expertise and technology to further promote Linux in China, in Asia, and around the world."

China is one of the world‘s fastest-growing markets for Linux, according to research analysts. CCID Consulting, a Chinese IT research firm, has estimated that the Linux server software market in China will explode at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 50 percent over the next five years.

"We welcome Red Flag Software and look forward to their contributions in the OSDL working groups," said Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL. "OSDL is committed to the continued growth of Linux in what many experts believe will become one of the world‘s largest software markets: China."

"We‘re pleased that Red Flag brings OSDL Linux experience with Chinese businesses, government groups, and consumers," said Fang Xia, head of OSDL‘s China office in Beijing. "OSDL plans to work with Red Flag, other OSDL members, and the Linux community in China to foster contributions to the global development of Linux."
