Houston,
TX (PRWEB) July 13, 2004 -- E-mail hosting provider Greatmail LLC today
announced a backup e-mail service designed for businesses and organizations
seeking complete e-mail redundancy. Backup Mail Server allows administrators
to create a secondary mail server that mirrors the setup of their primary
server. In the event a company's primary mail server is unreachable, messages
are delivered to mailboxes on the secondary server. Backup Mail Server
not only prevents incoming messages from being bounced but also allows
users to send and receive e-mail while the primary server is unavailable.
In order
to achieve e-mail redundancy, Backup Mail Server utilizes DNS management
tools available through most domain name registrars that allow administrators
to create multiple mail exchange records or "MX records" which
define the servers that handle a domain's e-mail. In addition, each MX
record is assigned a priority with lower numbered records taking higher
priority. For Backup Mail Server to work, an administrator must specify
a lower priority MX record that points to the secondary mail server and
also establish and maintain secondary mail accounts or a catchall account
on the backup server. To complete the redundant setup, administrators
should create secondary mail client accounts that connect to the backup
server or instruct users to use Greatmail's webmail to access and send
messages.
Greatmail
offers five backup mail plans that include up to 5 gigabytes of storage
and are priced from $9.95 to $99.95 per month. Additional storage is available
for $18 per gigabyte. An optional setup fee of $80 includes domain name
registration, DNS/MX record support, and configuration of the client's
mail accounts. Backup Mail Server supports both POP3 and IMAP4 protocols,
thus allowing users to access their e-mail through client applications
such as Microsoft Outlook or Greatmail's webmail application. Backup Mail
Server features an intuitive web based administration panel allowing administrators
to easily update and maintain user accounts, forwards, aliases, autoresponders,
mailing lists, and storage quotas. In addition, users may individually
manage vacation message and spam control preferences. All user accounts
are protected at the mail server level by Clam Antivirus.
In addition
to Backup Mail Server, Greatmail offers five standard e-mail and web hosting
plans that include up to 5 gigabytes of storage and 500 mailboxes per
account. Web hosting features include support for mySQL, PHP, mod_perl,
SSL and FTP. E-mail features include support for both POP3 and IMAP4 protocols,
SMTP authentication, mail forwarding, autoresponders, aliases, mailing
lists, virus protection and spam control. For ISPs and resellers, Greatmail
develops custom solutions including private label dedicated servers and
load balanced server clusters.
Greatmail's
servers are located at a dedicated climate-controlled facility equipped
with complete power protection via on-site UPS and diesel generators,
pre-action fire suppression and direct connections to the major internet
backbones. 24-hour network supervision by qualified technicians and automated
system monitoring ensure quick problem resolution. Greatmail's servers
run the latest versions of Linux OS and are backed up daily by a server
independent, non-centralized mirrored disk backup system.
