Jul 05, 2004 – (HostReview.com) -- BT today announced that it has signed a multi-million pound, ten-year contract with Carillion PLC a bespoke, off-site data center solution in the Midlands area. The deal will see BT Wholesale's Locate venture implement and manage two data centers. BT will deliver data center facilities, complete with managed backup and state of the art security systems at a manageable, fixed cost.

"This is a great win for us and further demonstrates the strength of our unique Locate offering. Locate offers customers a bespoke, future-proof solution that our competitors in this space simply cannot match," said Chris Hutchings, Director Ventures, BT Wholesale Markets.

As part of the tailored package, Locate offers Carillion the option to take office space at the facility and a number of Carillion IT staff will be based onsite, enabling constant access to their equipment. The dual data center model provides Carillion with resilience, as applications are mirrored at both sites to provide the best possible security.

"The provision of two off-site data centers is a fundamental element of our business continuity plan and we are very pleased to be working with BT in such an important area of operation," said Carillion's Chief Executive John McDonough.

BT Global Services will deliver the appropriate connectivity bandwidth and integrate the two data centers into a managed, network-centric ICT solution for the customer.
