DENVER—June 28, 2004—MX Logic, Inc., a leading provider of innovative email defense solutions that ensure email protection and security for enterprises, service providers, government organizations, resellers and their customers, today announced that IIJ America Inc., a subsidiary of the Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJIE), has selected MX Logic to deliver comprehensive email defense to its North American enterprise customer base. IIJ is one of Japan's leading Internet-access and comprehensive Internet solutions providers, with one of the largest Internet backbones in Japan and between Japan and the United States.

IIJ America is leveraging MX Logic's Email Defense Service, which blocks 98 percent of spam and unwanted content and attachments, and stops viruses, worms and other email threats such as fraud and phishing scams from entering the corporate email network. IIJ is co-branding and selling MX Logic Email Defense Service to Japanese multinational corporations in North America as part of its overall Internet service solution suite.

Once considered merely a nuisance, spam and other email threats have become a costly burden for enterprises. Ferris Research estimates that in 2003, the total cost of spam to U.S. businesses in lost productivity was $10 billion. In the month of May, the MX Logic Threat Center reported that 74.4 percent of all email traffic filtered by the company was spam. MX Logic has seen more than 500 unique email-borne viruses and worms in its Threat Center since Jan. 1, and that number is expected to continue rising. By 2006, industry analysts expect the economic impact of computer viruses to approach $60 billion worldwide.

"Spam protection and robust email defense are two key network concerns for our enterprise customers," said Isao Momota, president and CEO, IIJ America. "MX Logic's Email Defense Service allows us to deliver comprehensive email protection to our enterprise customers, shielding them from email-borne threats before they reach corporate networks. Because of its flexibility, the MX Logic Email Defense Service enables us to meet the requirements of our core market—Japanese multinational corporations in North America."

MX Logic's Email Defense Service leverages its MX Logic's Stacked Classification Framework®,, which employs the most effective spam filters and techniques in the industry. Through aggregation and analysis of spam-likelihood scores, MX Logic provides highly effective spam blocking and ensures very low levels of legitimate email marked as spam. In addition to unsolicited content filtering and blocking, MX Logic provides maximum virus defense powered by MX Logic's proprietary anti-virus engine and premier virus-scanning engines that are updated in near-real-time.

MX Logic's Email Defense Service includes a SecureMX feature that shields and conceals the messaging infrastructure—including the location of the mail servers—from the public Internet, removing the threat of network probes and providing robust protection from attack.

Powering MX Logic's Email Defense Service is MX Logic's Threat Center, a sophisticated streaming data environment where MX Logic monitors the global state of email communication 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and provides MX Logic's customers with real-time updates and protection. Led by email security experts with extensive experience in protecting messaging networks, the Threat Center provides dynamic email defense—staying far ahead of the next attack by continually incorporating information about the very latest spammer, virus and worm tactics.

"As the battle against spam and other email threats continues to escalate, enterprises worldwide need dynamic messaging protection and security that can be implemented quickly and cost- effectively," said John Street, CEO, MX Logic. "The MX Logic Email Defense Service enables service providers like IIJ America to provide even greater support to its customers by delivering robust and comprehensive email defense services."
