Diegem 17 May 2004 - LCL has opened a second datacentre for its customers in Antwerp. LCL has come to an agreement with C&W who is stopping its housing and colocation activities. The centre occupies a 477m² surface and is built in a completely redundant way. C&W had invested around 1.2 million Euros in this centre. Thanks to the take over of this centre in Antwerp, LCL has become the largest, independent colocation supplier in Belgium and is the only independent colocation supplier running two centres.

According to LCL's Managing Director, Laurens van Reijen : "For LCL, it represents a real opportunity to be able to assist the existing customers from Antwerp but also to develop new activities. The building, situated around 40 kilometres from the datacentre in Diegem, is perfectly adapted to "Disaster Recovery" and "Business Continuity" services. As the only operator having hooked up datacentres to different electricity suppliers and to different backbones operators, we can supply you with total redundancy. We have observed an increase in requests from the professional market with a view to solutions that ensure continuity for the critical applications and, our two centres allow us to answer these requests without any problem."

The centre can be used as a "hot site" or a "cold site". In the case on a " hot site ", there is a permanent connection between the two mirrored sites (through fibre channel, Escon,...). The alternative site is always ready to take over all the tasks in the case where a problem should occur on the main site. In the " cold site " configuration, certain preventive measures are taken but the alternative site will only become operational in the case of a major problem.

At the moment, LCL is responsible for the physical infrastructure: guaranteed energy and air conditioning supply, safety,…..and allows the companies to outsource without loosing control of their IT environment. The system integrators can take care of the firewalls, spam intercept, IP VPN services, … A partner programme is developed by LCL with these systems integrators.
