Equinix Expands Data Center Footprint in Washington, D.C. Area by More Than 50%

Opening of New 95,000 Sq. Ft. Expansion Gives Equinix Additional Capacity For Growth in One of Its Fastest Growing Markets

Foster City, CA - April 22, 2004 - Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that it has signed a long-term lease for an additional 95,000 square feet of data center space adjacent to the company's Washington D.C. Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center. The expansion adds to the approximately 180,000 square feet of data center space that Equinix currently operates in Ashburn, Virginia, making Equinix's operations one of the largest centers in the region.

As Equinix's neutral, network-rich IBX centers serve as hubs for Internet traffic, they are considerably larger than traditional hosting or colocation spaces in order to accommodate the critical mass of networks, enterprises and Internet businesses that come to IBX centers to interconnect.

In addition to its expanded Washington D.C. area facility, Equinix also operates IBX centers in the New York, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo areas. Today's announcement expands Equinix's global footprint to more than 1.3 million square feet in five countries.

"We are seeing a tremendous amount of customer demand for our Internet hubs and exchange services in the Washington D.C. market," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. "With our existing D.C. center approaching 60% utilization, this new expansion gives us additional capacity to take advantage of this momentum with minimal capital investment."

The new space features a physical infrastructure that is consistent with Equinix's industry-leading standards for high-performance security, environmental control and power availability. An enhanced power infrastructure will support blade technologies and other high power density deployments. Equinix intends to invest approximately $5 million in 2004 to make additional infrastructure enhancements.

With a direct link to the networks, content providers, enterprises, systems integrators and other Internet companies currently operating within Equinix's Washington, D.C. area center, customers of the new space will have immediate access to more than 100 networks and a myriad of strategic business partners for transit, peering and exchange services. Equinix intends to begin placing customers in the center November 1, 2004.
