CAMBRIDGE, MA and NEW YORK, NY, March 15, 2004 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) and MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM) today announced the selection of Akamai for Major League Baseball content distribution and streaming of audio and video. Under the multi-year agreement, Akamai will provide content delivery of MLB.com and Major League Baseball's 30 team Web sites including streaming of Major League Baseball live and on-demand video and audio game-casts. The integration with Akamai began last month, and will be fully operational by Opening Day. Akamai's support of multiple media formats enables MLBAM to offer fans a choice of media players. Joe Choti, senior vice president and CTO of MLB Advanced Media, which is owned jointly by all 30 major-league teams, stated, "There is tremendous interest in baseball and the content of baseball, and we are looking forward to the start of another exciting season. Our relationship with Akamai supports our efforts to provide baseball fans all over the world with a consistent, high-quality online experience at all times." "The passion for Major League Baseball and the ubiquity of the Internet make for a perfect match," said George Conrades, chairman and CEO of Akamai. "We're excited to bring the two together in a rich, engaging experience for all fans." Major League Baseball is the leader among major U.S. professional sports leagues in bringing live audio and video to the Web. MLB.com offers live audio broadcasts of all games, and in 2003, began selling live video Webcasts for roughly half of regular-season games, depending on local-market blackout restrictions. MLB.com had over half a million paid subscribers last year, including over 150,000 for its live video service. Utilizing Akamai's platform, MLBAM expects to once again set new records for MLB.com in 2004. "MLB.TV features over 250 live games per month. Akamai's proven network is ideal for handling this extensive amount of content," continued Choti. Akamai's EdgeComputingSM service for Web-based applications such as 'virtual waiting room,' which is used by today's leading online ticketing agencies, will also prove valuable to MLB.com's successful ticket sales. This on-demand Web application is supported as part of Akamai's unique EdgeSuite® service being provided to MLB.com. About MLB Advanced
