POP Mailbox Users Can Select Two Levels of SPAM Protection

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., (February 18, 2004) - Unsolicited e-mail, known as spam, accounts for more than 50% of the e-mails received on a daily basis. Spam exploits indispensable network resources and frustrates recipients as they spend valuable time deleting these messages. Now, Intermedia.NET, a leading turnkey provider of Microsoft Exchange® and advanced hosting solutions for small to medium-sized businesses, has released two levels of spam filtering to address this situation for its shared hosting customers.

Intermedia.NET spam filtering solutions provide all of their POP mailbox customers with two options for protection. The Basic spam filtering service provides all mailboxes with a basic level of defense, including the rejection of "bad" mail headers and dangerous attachments on the server side. Users can change the type of anti-spam action, such as "mark as spam" or "delete off server."

The Company's Advanced spam filtering protection allows users to adjust the filter's sensitivity level, manage "white" and "black" lists, and enable or disable filtering on the individual mailbox level. Similar to the basic service, messages with bad mail headers and dangerous attachments are rejected. Mail coming into those domains hosted by Intermedia.NET with the advanced spam filtering service receive higher scanning priority and is processed faster.

Intermedia.NET customer Paul Liepe of MyFBO.com said, "Even though I was originally using a very long list of prohibit words in Microsoft Outlook, your new mail filter has cut the junk mail I have to deal with in half."

Alexander Yevelev, Intermedia.NET's Director of Sales and Marketing, said, "Our clients rely on us to continually research and deliver the best resolutions to e-mail problems, such as spam. By outsourcing to Intermedia.NET, they can improve their productivity and gain tailored spam filtering solutions without an infrastructure investment and ongoing IT overhead."
