San Jose, CA, February 17, 2004 – SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc., a leading provider of GPS semiconductor and software solutions, today unveiled SiRFLoc™ Server software, a carrier-class, standards compliant, multimode aided-GPS location server that enables wireless operators to support a wide range of location-based services (LBS) with minimal impact on their network infrastructure. Incorporating SiRF’s patented multimode technology, SiRFLoc Server allows LBS applications to “shift gears” between several network-aided and autonomous positioning modes to control network loading and achieve greater operational efficiency. SiRFLoc Server will be on display with a variety of other new SiRF offerings (see press release entitled, SiRF Breaks Key Barriers to GPS-enable Mobile Wireless Devices) at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Feb. 23 – 26, in Hall 4, Booth K17.

Designed expressly for wireless location-based services deployment, SiRFLoc Server is both highly flexible and scalable. Offered through SiRF’s infrastructure partners in a carrierclass network location server, SiRFLoc Server can be implemented by wireless operators or
Wireless Application Service Providers (ASP). It supports key standard wireless air interfaces and location service protocols, including RRLP for GSM/GPRS, RRC for WCDMA, PDDM for SiRF Multimode Location Server Makes LBS Smarter Page 2 CDMA2000, IS-801 for CDMA and DLP for NTT DoCoMo, and non-standard protocols for Wireless ASPs. SiRFLoc Server is designed to support both aided (MS-Assisted and MS-Based) GPS and autonomous positioning methods, as well as hybrid Cell ID - GPS and other advanced hybrid positioning methods. Depending on network loading, QoS and application requirements, SiRFLoc Server can dynamically mix the various positioning methods and location service protocols within location sessions. Operators can install SiRFLoc Server in the user plane for faster, less costly deployment, as well as in the control plane, and can efficiently expand their networks as user traffic increases by running multiple servers.

“Because it can dynamically adjust the positioning mode, SiRFLoc Server is designed to provide carriers with a location platform that is just as suitable for basic E-911 service as it is for advanced real-time tracking and navigation applications,” said Kanwar Chadha, founder and vice president of marketing for SiRF. “Combined with SiRFLoc-enhanced handsets, the SiRFLoc Server provides a comprehensive solution that helps wireless carriers reduce the cost and risk of location-enabling their networks.”

Running on industry standard hardware platforms, SiRFLoc Server supports up to 64,000 simultaneous active location sessions and up to 200 new sessions per second. Using SiRF’s exclusive anti-multipath triangulator (AMT) technology, SiRFLoc Server significantly reduces positioning errors due to multipath, even in weak signal environments. The SiRFLoc Server also takes advantage of the extension container feature of the RRLP protocol to provide enhanced capabilities such as user navigation and hybrid solutions for both MS-Assisted and MS-Based positioning, and is ASN.1 registered. SiRFLoc Server software is available for Linux (PC) and multiprocessor Sun Solaris environments either as a full-function, standalone location server system or as a core location engine for integration into other servers.

The SiRFLoc Server and SiRFLoc client chipsets and software are major components of SiRF’s SiRFLoc multimode architecture. SiRFLoc multimode is a wireless carrier-grade location technology that allows device users to determine their position with or without network aiding. By using “multimode” GPS-enabled location technology, SiRFLoc allows networks to move beyond simple emergency assistance applications, such as the United States E-911 requirement, to support a wide range of location based services without excessive network bandwidth requirements. These include applications such as personal navigation, location-based enterprise applications, location-enabled games and mobile commerce.

About SiRF Technology
SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc. develops and markets semiconductor and software products that are designed to enable location-awareness utilizing GPS and other location technologies in high-volume mobile consumer devices and commercial applications. Locationawareness refers to the ability of a device to determine and make use of information regarding its location. SiRF’s technology has been integrated into mobile consumer devices, such as automobile navigation systems, mobile phones, PDAs, GPS-based peripherals, and handheld GPS navigation devices, and into commercial applications, such as asset tracking devices and fleet management systems. SiRF markets and sells its products in four target platforms: mobile phones, automotive systems, portable computing devices, and embedded consumer devices.
