The EventGnosis ECS receives events, which are generated by any change in the state of a system resource, network resource, or network application, as inputs from several different sources and protocols. The ECS then normalizes them, processes them through correlation filters and forwards them to outbound destinations, such as network and security event management consoles. By collecting, filtering, and correlating network events in real time, anomalies and malicious activity can be identified as its happening, enabling IT staff to more effectively and efficiently react to improve the security of a company’s network infrastructure. The ECS can be used as the sole event correlation server on the network or as a complementary correlation tool to enhance existing network event management capabilities.

The ECS processes the flow of events through the network and manages them in plug-in ECAs. These correlation applications translate protocols and formats, reduce events for relevance, initiate new events based on correlation rules, encrypt and sign events to certify origin, and archive events in a common format. Users can customize their own ECAs to define common correlations, modify correlation rules, create new filter types, integrate existing network management scripts, develop installable correlation applications, and more.
