Switch and Data Appoints Gene Lew VP of Engineering

TAMPA, FL – January 20, 2004 – Switch and Data, the leading neutral interconnection, Internet exchange and colocation provider, today announced that Gene Lew has been named as Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Lew will have responsibility for all Engineering functions and will lead the company’s tactical and strategic technical direction.

Mr. Lew brings over 20 years of engineering management experience in information technology, telecommunications, cable, Internet, and multi-media technologies. Most recently, Mr. Lew served as Chief Technology Officer for Gemini Networks, where he built the technology and engineering team from the company’s beginning. During this role, Mr. Lew was responsible for the architecture, technology, and strategic direction of the company's product offerings.

Prior to Gemini Networks, Mr. Lew was the Vice President of Engineering and Advanced Technology for RoadRunner. During his tenure, Mr. Lew managed and built RoadRunner’s engineering & advanced technology development efforts including the strategy, broadband infrastructure and products for its core broadband data, audio, video, voice and wireless applications. Before RoadRunner, Mr. Lew held a variety of executive level technology positions working with Matsushita/Panasonic, Verizon, and MCI.

Mr. Lew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering from the University of New York.
