MOUNTAIN
VIEW, Calif. - December 23, 2003 - VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq:
VRTS), the leading storage software provider, today announced the immediate
availability of VERITAS Storage Extension. The new product will utilize
EMC's open API to link VERITAS IndepthTM application performance management
(APM) software with EMC arrays to provide IT administrators greater visibility
over the performance of their EMC storage systems. VERITAS Indepth software
optimizes the performance of Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 UDB database servers
running on a wide variety of storage arrays including systems from EMC,
Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi and IBM.
VERITAS Storage
Extension enables IT managers to customize and tune applications and databases
for optimal performance in an EMC environment. The configuration is designed
to enhance application performance, increase storage efficiency, reduce
management and ultimately help enable a lower total cost of ownership.
"Optimizing application and database performance can produce tremendous
dividends for organizations by better leveraging the server and storage
assets already in place," said Corey Ferengul, Vice President with
the META Group. "Users clearly require performance management solutions
that span across a broad spectrum of storage and hardware platforms, databases
and applications and provide linking data. This is an important capability
for IT shops with heterogeneous environments and that is the vast majority
of IT operations." Integration Between VERITAS APM and EMC Storage
VERITAS Storage Extension provides integration between VERITAS software
and EMC storage arrays and can be deployed as a replacement for EMC DB
Tuner. The new extension enables VERITAS IndepthTM for Oracle and VERITAS
IndepthTM for SQL Server APM software to display performance metrics from
EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON storage arrays. It also allows VERITAS IndepthTM
for DB2 UDB software to display performance metrics from EMC Symmetrix
storage arrays. "With VERITAS Storage Extension and other components
of the VERITAS i3TM APM software, IT managers will be able to optimize
applications by rapidly detecting, diagnosing and enabling correction
of performance problems by monitoring every transaction in real-time,
from the end-user through the storage array," said Robert Maness,
senior director of product marketing, VERITAS Software. "VERITAS
Storage Extension software provides another core building block designed
to help companies manage the performance, capacity and reliability of
their IT operations to meet the changing demands of the organization -
the fundamental promise of utility computing." Application Performance
Management and Utility Computing
Performance is one of the essential pillars in VERITAS' utility computing
strategy. Utility computing represents a fundamental shift in the way
that IT delivers applications to business users. Application performance
management enables IT managers to deliver agreed-upon levels of availability
and performance, adapting dynamically to changing business demands. VERITAS
solutions also reduce hardware and labor costs by automatically provisioning
shared pools of storage, servers and resources across multiple applications
and internal operations. VERITAS Software provides the building blocks
to enable utility computing - across any storage device, server,
operating system or business application.
