FOSTER CITY, CA, November 10, 2003 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. has selected Equinix's Chicago Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center to host the company's Britannica.com Web site. The move to Equinix's network-rich data center will provide Britannica with a flexible environment to control and enhance the delivery of its digital content services while lowering overall costs.

Britannica, recently recognized as a technology innovator by CIO Magazine's "CIO 100," has been a pioneer in electronic publishing, high-quality reference, and education products in digital media for a decade and a half. The 235 year-old publisher's Britannica.com Web site is a comprehensive information source that features rich multimedia presentations and serves people all over the world who need reliable, in-depth information.

Within Equinix's Chicago center, Britannica will have immediate and direct access to every major U.S. network and an aggregation of managed service providers. This direct access to their key partners within the same center will enable Britannica to eliminate the costs of establishing separate transit circuits to connect to each of these partners in multiple, disparate locations.

Equinix's high performance data center environment also provides Britannica with the ability to exercise greater control over its IT operations. The world-class quality of Equinix data centers is an important part of ensuring the highest performance possible for the Britannica.com site. The abundance of networks and service providers in the center also enables Britannica to develop a customized IT solution that can quickly scale to meet seasonal growth.

"With the increasing importance of the digital delivery of our content, Britannica requires a data center infrastructure that provides us with the greatest degree of flexibility and control over our IT operations," said James Glenski, director, IT of Enclyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. "Equinix's premium centers offer us this flexibility and control, while also enabling us to reduce our network connectivity costs and improve end-user performance."

"Britannica has fused its 235 year legacy as an authoritative information source with the latest technology and digital distribution," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. "Our ability to help the company scale quickly while intelligently controlling network costs is a prime value that Equinix is bringing to fast growing companies and demonstrates our success in serving the needs of enterprise companies."
