Latest release of Incognito’s DNS Commander counteracts
VeriSign’s new SiteFinder service

VANCOUVER,
Canada (September 24, 2003) - Incognito Software announced today
that it has released an updated DNS Commander software package. The update
comes in response to VeriSign's recent move to redirect Internet
users searching for non-existent or misspelled domain names under the
.com and .net zone to their "SiteFinder" website. VeriSign's
decision to alter the IETF's common practices for returning error
messages has had many adverse affects on anti-spam mechanisms, online
businesses, in addition to privacy concerns. "VeriSign is not alone
in this as there have been others who have long been involved in this
practice as well. Incognito has always been at the forefront of developing
new ways to use DNS and other protocols, like Common Name Resolution protocol,
for commerce and improving user experiences," said Patricia Steadman,
CEO and Co- Founder of Incognito. "In keeping with Incognito's
commitment to develop standardsbased products, we believe that any divergence
from Internet standards should only be adopted in ‘walled gardens',
or networks that are not referenced by outside servers."
Anti-Spam applications are the first affected by VeriSign's practice
of designating all .com and .net domain names to "exist".
These applications commonly verify that the domain an email claims to
have originated from exists as a primary test of an email's
validity, a practice rendered almost obsolete with VeriSign's SiteFinder.
To counteract this and other negative effects, DNS Commander 4.0E allows
for the proper operation of DNS services so that web surfing, Spam detection,
and other online activities can
proceed as they had before VeriSign's SiteFinder service.
