Web Hosting Industry Week

This week Yahoo! Inc. announced the launch of the Yahoo! Small Business Resource Center. The business unit is a new comprehensive online resource center designed to help entrepreneurs succeed by offering approximately 1,000 articles on key business issues around topics such as marketing, legal and human resources.

The new site features approximately 1,000 articles of business-related content created by Yahoo! and additional content from established, respected small business news sources.

"The new Yahoo! Small Business Resource Center provides information and resources that will help entrepreneurs with every aspect of their business, with a particular focus on how to leverage the Internet to be successful online," said Rich Riley, vice president and general manager, Yahoo! Small Business. 

Microsoft this week held industry forum where many of the industry's most innovative thought leaders met to discuss what will shape the advertising industry today and in the future. Attendees also gained insights into MSN's vision and marketing strategy. 

Microsoft Corp. and Quest Software Inc., announced this week they have reached a milestone by successfully migrating more than 1.5 million Novell NetWare users to Microsoft® Windows Server (TM) 2003. Following on the success of the NetWare migration program unveiled in November 2004, Microsoft and Quest announced a new agreement allowing enterprise customers with more than 1,000 seats to license Quest GroupWise Migrator with a 20 percent discount off the list price. 

IDC announced this week that Cisco Systems and Tektronix are the recipients of IDC's CMO Best Practices Awards for Marketing Dashboard Development. Cisco and Tektronix were selected as the winners by the CMO Advisory research team from nominations submitted by technology marketing vendors across the IT industry.

Comodo Inc. (www.comodo.com) moved one step closer to the goal of Establishing Trust™ for e-Business with the unveiling of www.contentverification.com . Consumer doubt over the reliability of the Internet for e-commerce transactions has prompted enterprises, governments and action groups to attempt to reassure and redress the damage done, both to individuals and to the reputations of the enterprises themselves. 

The acquisition of the week was announced by Akamai Technologies, Inc. (www.akamai.com) and Speedera Networks Inc. The two companies have signed a definitive agreement for Akamai to acquire Speedera in a stock-for-stock merger transaction.

The closing of the transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals and the approval of Speedera's stockholders, is expected to occur in the second quarter of 2005.

1&1 Internet, Inc. announced that its eShop Web Hosting packages will now offer PayPal as a preferred payment method. According to 1&1, the Web Host will designate PayPal as the default payment mode in each of its eShop products. 

In the field of the technology improvements, Digital River, Inc. (www.digitalriver.com) announced new enhancements to its SoftwarePassport™ technology. 

Non-profit organizations received support this week with the new Cisco project. Cisco Systems Foundation announced its 2005 San Jose Impact Grants that support non-profits within a 50-mile radius of Cisco's headquarters.
