Its only the middle of the week and the web hosting industry has already released some remarkable events. The Speedera acquisition of Akamai Technologies, Inc. will reflect the market share in the industry. The two companies have signed a definitive agreement for Akamai to acquire Speedera in a stock-for-stock merger transaction.

The closing of the transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals and the approval of Speedera's stockholders, is expected to occur in the second quarter of 2005.

Among the award events notable is The IDC CMO Advisory Service Awards. The research authority announced that Cisco Systems and Tektronix are the recipients of IDC's CMO Best Practices Awards for Marketing Dashboard Development.

The two companies were selected from nominations submitted by technology marketing vendors across the IT industry.

From IDC state that the entries for Cisco and Tektronix outline the processes used to develop a successful marketing dashboard. "Marketing dashboard development is on the top of the 'to-do' list of virtually every major technology marketing organization," said Rich Vancil, vice president of IDC's CMO Advisory Research Service.

The winning entry from San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems, was submitted by Denise Peck, vice president of Marketing Operations. The winning entry from Portland, Ore.-based Tektronix, was submitted by Martyn Etherington, vice president, Worldwide Marketing.

"While it is very common to have a dashboard that is a report of past or lagging indicators, Cisco has avoided the common pitfall of having the dashboard act more as a rearview mirror rather than a window to the future," said Michael Gerard, research director for IDC's CMO Advisory Service.

In the security field, IPLocks announced a global alliance and technology partnership with Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation.
The companies are teaming up to market and sell the IPLocks Information Risk Management Platform to Teradata data warehouse customers. These customers are increasingly looking to monitor the access of their databases and protect critical business information.

IPLocks Information Risk Management Platform satisfies Teradata's customer vulnerability assessment and security monitoring requirements. The IPLocks / Teradata solution manages and monitors user access to critical information assets and enhances their security posture by preventing malicious and negligent use.

"Information security is a top priority for global corporations who need to manage an increasingly vast amount of data in an easy and concise manner," said Scott Collins, Vice President of Alliances at Teradata.
