The week continued to present the novelties in the industry with the new launches and forming of successful teams. The industry updates continued with tsunami relief action announcements reflecting the companies' efforts to help the devastated areas.

"The outpouring of support for the Tsunami relief effort was really touching -- it symbolizes how a community can come together to support people on the other side of the globe," said Rob Riggieri, Paid Inc.

Netcraft announced that the open source Firefox web browser has made significant step ahead in the RSS reader market share positioning. Firefox is grabbing market share as an RSS reader, according to new data from RSS service provider Feedburner.

According to the release, Firefox is the third-most popular RSS client. The features of the Firefox browser allow to be detected the availablility of an RSS feed for a site. It also can integrate feeds using Live Bookmarks or extensions such as Sage.

In the domain name industry providers' arena, Go Daddy has begun selling virtual private servers (VPS) and dedicated servers, continuing the expansion of services.

The demand for the growing needs for the small enterprise market to be met with new offerings, Aplus.Net launched a new, completely redesigned website. The completely renewed site offers everything from domain registration to web hosting and web design and is oriented to cover the complete set of services to get business online. "The small business owner is at the core of our business," said Ivan Vachovsky, Chief Executive Officer of Aplus.Net.

Another announcement came from one of the fast growing hosting providers for 2004, according to the Netcraft list. The Planet  launched enterprise-level load balancing through a partnership with Zeus Technology. 

"We're thrilled to bring advanced load balancing to all of our customers, small business and otherwise," said Sam Fleitman, Vice President of Managed Services at The Planet. "With user-level access to load balancing functions through ORBIT, customers can load balance any server in our datacenter and manage settings in real-time." 

Streamload shook the storage market with its 10 gigabyte online storage free offering, potentially raising the stakes for big market players like Yahoo and AOL. The company is increasingly competing with larger companies that offer online digital photo hosting. The company said the online lockers are now more relevant to a broader user needs for large collections of digital photographs and MP3 files storage.

In the security field, Northampton College has announced it has selected a cost effective integrated solution from Network Box. The solution will provide remotely-managed protection against Internet threats.
