Netcraft reporting this week showed the best companies for the last year performance. Of the leading hosting companies, monitored in the period, seventeen providers went through the entire six months with no outages at all, reported the monitoring company. It was seen that six hosting companies went through the period with 0.2% or less of requests failing from our seven measurement points. In the list four companies in the top 10 were also in the list for 2003, with Datapipe moving from second place last year to top the chart. The monitoring service launched a toolbar to defend against phishing frauds. The method is based on effective feedback system. This way, the phishing attack will be reported and blocked sooner after it is reported in the toolbar center. In the last week events most were concentrated around the tsunami relief programs. Web Hosting community launched series of relief support programs to help the devastated areas. Affinity Internet announced last week that it will contribute $5 to the American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund for every new account until the end of February 2005. The company reported it has the potential to exceed a total contribution of $50,000. Lunarpages, a provider of web hosting services, announced it will offer free web hosting effective immediately to anyone wishing to support the tsunami relief effort. Rebuilding efforts for those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Asia and the east coast of Africa were widely supported. The employees of Verizon responded quickly when the company announced a special disaster relief program. It resulted in more than $1 million in donations to two relief agencies. This continued the efforts in the last week of 2004 of the employees of Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems, Inc. The first week of the New Year was successful for Quest Software Inc., a provider of application, database and Windows management solutions. The company was ranked the No. 1 Windows Server platform management software provider according to a December 2004 report from Forrester Research. Successful acquisitions events continued to fill the news list in the first days of the year. Terremark Worldwide, Inc. announced that it has acquired from its partners all of the equity interests not owned by it in the entity that owns the Technology Center of the Americas (TECOTA), home of Terremark's flagship NAP of the Americas. The technology innovative launches this week were topped by Aplus.Net. The web hosting company announced last week the release of Smart Monitor, a highly customizable server monitoring and event notification service. New division launches were presented by Webhosting provider Sagonet Technologies, Inc. The company announced its much anticipated low-cost, high bandwidth, complete managed hosting services division AllManaged.
