Investments in Research to Provide IT Industry Extensive Coverage

IDC outlined recently a series of ongoing research investments designed to expand and deepen its' market intelligence and advisory capabilities. The investments in IDC's core research assets will result in greater geographic and vertical industry coverage.

"IDC is continuously making strategic research investments to ensure that our analysts and products are ideally suited to our clients' market intelligence and advisory needs," said Kirk Campbell, President and CEO of IDC.

"We are currently focusing on our industry-specific, end-user advisory business, where IDC is investing $35 million in its' Insights companies and several cross-industry research initiatives," added Campbell.

From IDC are determined to provide deep industry coverage, extensive exploration of industry-specific business issues, including analysis of how IT is used within these industries.

Successful acquisition announcements continued this week with peak 10 Acquisition of Xodiax Web Hosting and SBC had finalized its' deal to acquire AT&T.

"The acquisition of AT&T by SBC is an indication that the landscape of hosting is not finished changing," said David Chao Vice President of Product Management and Strategic Alliances for Verio's Global Solutions on the Web Hosting Round table organized this week by HostReview.

The increasing popularity in web hosting services continues to slash prices on domain names in an effort to attract new small business customers, as reported Netcraft. The latest price cut comes from Netfirms, a Toronto hosting provider that has begun selling domain names for $4.95 a year.

That price undercuts Yahoo's $4.98 promotional rate, reports Netcraft, as well as 1&1 Internet's one-year .com price of $5.99, previously the lowest non-promotional pricing.

This week CERT® Network Situational Awareness group at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute announced the second Annual FloCon Workshop. The forum will be held on September 20-22, 2005 (Tuesday-Thursday) at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, Louisiana.

FloCon is an open workshop that provides a forum for researchers, operational analysts, and other parties interested in the security analysis of large volumes of traffic to develop the next generation of flow-based analysis.
