Languages like Ruby and Python make building things, particularly APIs, incredibly simple. This simplicity enables the rapid delivery of APIs, but how can developers ensure that this increased output does not translate to technical sloppiness? After all, simplicity and speed are not always synonymous with quality. Developers need to build APIs and then test quickly to make sure the API achieves API greatness. Attendees learn 1) how to use Django and Flask to build APIs in Python, 2) two Grape and Rails APIs in Ruby and how this approach differs from Python as well as 3) how to test all of these APIs together in Ready! API.

Shelby Switzer builds APIs, microservices and Web apps at Notion, a startup making home awareness a reality through incredibly smart sensors. She regularly uses Ruby, RubyOnRails, Sinatra, Docker, JavaScript, RabbitMQ, EventMachine, R, Shiny framework, HTML5 and SASS. She organizes and leads various hackathons and events for API. She is a core team member of Code for Denver, a Code for America brigade. Projects this year have focused on creating tech solutions for local nonprofits’ problems through various technologies like ReactJS, Ruby, Salesforce, Clojure and Drupal.
