OmniTI Announces DevOps Customer Successes That Streamline Delivery Of High Quality Applications To Market

11:57:13 - 27 March 2015

Customers Experiencing Significant Reduction in Deployment Times; Zero Downtime When Performing Upgrades

FULTON, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OmniTI, a leading provider of web infrastructure and applications for companies that require scalable, high-performance, mission critical solutions, today announced it has expanded its services to help customers automate their processes to deliver high quality applications to market faster.

Consistent with its focus on IT agility and quality, OmniTI operates under DevOps principles, exploring the flow of value through the IT delivery process, identifying opportunities to eliminate waste, realign misaligned incentives, and open bottlenecks. OmniTI takes a unique, value-centric approach by plotting each opportunity in an effort-payoff quadrant, then working with customers to focus on initiatives with high payoff and low effort – using its deep bench of operational, development and database deployment and management knowledge to keep downward pressure on effort.

OmniTI’s customers are experiencing noteworthy benefits as a result of DevOps process implementation. Below are a few examples.

Madison Reed is revolutionizing the $50B hair care market using technology (web, mobile, tablet, social) to radically innovate the customer experience and business model. The company has an established a presence in the cloud and turned to OmniTI as it made plans to scale out the architecture to support expanding business operations. OmniTI helped Madison Reed with a road map on how to re-architect its cloud infrastructure in support of the future growth to make it simpler to manage, easier to scale and maintain security, all while reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the platform.

A major online gaming company adopted a Chef configuration management system, but stopped iterating the design of the workflow, leading to poor isolation between environments within the company’s private cloud. Deployments were risky and time-consuming. OmniTI was brought in to help architect and implement DevOps-style workflows and to assist in applying Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) principles to the deployment code, allowing infrastructure changes to be tracked, tested, and refactored without affecting downstream systems. Additionally, OmniTI helped to standardize deployment and add isolation, so that changes would only be deployed to the intended environment, reducing unexpected changes and building a sense of control. At the end of the project, rework was nearly eliminated, deployment times were reduced from 2 weeks to 45 minutes, and first-try success rates went from 25% to over 90%.

A provider of web-based faculty activity reporting solutions, needed to upgrade from a legacy OS platform and old versions of critical components such as access control and databases. At the same time, the company wanted to expand its hosts from 20 to 35 so that it could better utilize its new hosting provider. The company required centralized configuration management with revision control and a great deal of automation to reduce the migration risk and produce a repeatable, stable environment. Applying development principles to operations procedures, OmniTI developed and delivered a framework and dozens of Chef recipes to automate the management of installation and configuration of the infrastructure. Automation and orchestration tools were also built to execute the data migrations and execute on-the-fly database upgrades that were reliable, testable and repeatable, without interruption to its business.

“Delivering high-quality applications to market faster can translate to a real competitive advantage,” said Dave King, Chief Technology Officer, Madison Reed. “OmniTI was able to help our infrastructure expand as our business expanded while providing stability, scalability and security with its DevOps approach.”

“Customer demands and business requirements are forcing organizations to develop and deploy applications and products faster than ever,” said Robert Treat, CEO, OmniTI. “Our goal is to help customers realize the abundant benefits of adopting DevOps methodologies in this fast growing and dynamic time. Since we have embraced the DevOps approach with our clients, we have enabled them to deploy projects more quickly with improved functionality and quality.”
