HostPresto! Launches Pure SSD Initiative

04:29:17 - 01 October 2014

London, England, UK (PRWEB UK) - UK hosting company, HostPresto! have announced that it will migrate all customers to high performance SSDs by the end of 2014. The decision to move to SSDs is becoming increasingly popular with many web hosts due to the speed, capacity and reliability of modern SSDs.

Solid State Disks, or ‘SSD’s are one of the most exciting advances in modern computing for some time, traditionally the bottleneck in the majority of high performance computing systems has been the hard disk drive, where it’s mechanical traits meant slow data transfer rate and slow access times. This has always meant that web hosts have relied on large arrays of hard disks to provide the capacity and speed required in a market which is dominated by the demand of speed and reliability. Not only costly, these arrays are cause for concern as they provide a central point of failure.

Elliot Pearse, Managing Director of HostPresto! is quoted as saying:

“With recent advancements in SSD technology we now feel it’s the right time to upgrade our customer’s services. Previously, concerns about SSD reliability and most importantly capacity have meant we’ve been cautious in what we allow on our production systems.

Switching to all SSD servers will mean we can provide our customers with unparalleled server speed and reliability, in our trials our users noticed a 300% quicker page load in servers with SSDs, this is thanks to the ultra fast random read capacity of the Samsung 850 Pro SSD and it’s 3D VNand Technology.”

Samsung recently released their new 850 Pro SSD product line in capacities up to 1TB and citing its revolutionary 3D VNAND architecture provides much faster data access times and unparallelled reliability, so much so the company is offering a 10 year limited warranty with all its drives. Reception of the drive has been extremely good, one tech review site remarked “the Samsung SSD 850 Pro is one of the best, if not the best”.

HostPresto! have not yet rolled out a detailed migration plan, but customers have been noting that their servers have had maintenance windows recently which have resulted in much faster performance, which could suggest migration to the SSDs is taking place already. One thing is clear, HostPresto! customers will certainly have a very Merry Christmas with such a noticeable upgrade at no extra cost.
