RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--rPath, an innovator in automating application deployment and maintenance, today announced that it now supports The Rackspace Cloud, the cloud computing division of Rackspace®. With this announcement, software systems packaged, deployed and maintained using the rPath release automation platform are ready-to-run on The Rackspace Cloud’s infrastructure as a service product, Cloud Servers.
“rPath’s goal is to provide a complete solution for automating application deployment and maintenance across any environment — physical, virtual or cloud,” said Jake Sorofman, vice president of marketing for rPath. “As enterprise organizations embrace cloud services as part of their compute infrastructure, they’ll look to Rackspace as a provider with deep competency in delivering enterprise-class service levels and support. This makes The Rackspace Cloud an important target environment for applications packaged and maintained with our automation platform.”
rPath provides a solution for rapid, low-cost and highly-controlled deployment and maintenance of applications across physical, virtual and cloud-based environments. Based on a unique approach to system version control, the rPath release automation platform provides deep and detailed control over the key tasks associated with application deployment and maintenance, allowing IT administrators to deploy, update and troubleshoot software systems with ease.
Jim Curry, vice president of corporate development, Rackspace, said, “rPath is a key provider of solutions for deploying and maintaining enterprise applications across computing environments, including clouds. The rPath approach provides a simple and effective means for deploying applications to The Rackspace Cloud and maintaining them over time. We’re very pleased to continue our close collaboration with rPath as an important innovator in the Rackspace Cloud ecosystem.”
Bringing Release Automation to the Cloud
By removing the friction from application deployment, cloud services can dramatically increase the number of systems that need to be managed and maintained. Cloud may remove the barriers to application deployment — often based on the swipe of a credit card — but it doesn’t obviate the need to maintain these systems. Virtualized and cloud-based models simply shift the burden from a physical to a virtual medium — while catalyzing the growth of units that need to be maintained. As a result, the management burden has the potential to compound.
The solution to this management burden is automation.
Enterprises embracing The Rackspace Cloud can now use rPath to automate the creation and maintenance of applications as complete, self-contained and manageable systems. rPath captures all of the dependencies within the stack and manages the system and all of its components under system version control. This provides complete system transparency and control, and allows updates and patches to be automatically delivered to the running system without conflicts.
