Plymouth, MN – July 28, 2009 – Ecessa, a leader in affordable WAN link controllers for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SME), today announced that Providence, an engineering and environmental consulting company, has selected Ecessa’s PowerLink WAN link controllers to provide automated load balancing and failover for its business-critical WAN connectivity. With PowerLink, the Providence office locations with its multiple WAN connections receive automatic redundancy, site-to-site channel bonding and also have failover to a disaster recovery site. This provides continuous Internet uptime and reliability to Providence users relying on uninterrupted access to web-based data, software programs and online compliance forms.
Providence selected two PowerLinks to deploy for site-to-site channel bonding in its Baton Rouge and Dallas offices. Both offices have business-class cable connections and T1 lines. Site-to-site channel bonding is a form of WAN link load balancing and enables Providence to increase the total combined bandwidth of its multiple network connections between the two locations. In addition, the PowerLink provides continuous health checks (up/down status) of all the network connections, and packet-based load balancing distributes traffic among the network connections.
“We had purchased a Cisco ASA 5510, with the promise of dual ISP support. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the automatic WAN link failover or intelligent link load balancing that we needed, so we continued our quest for a better solution,” states Wesley Corie, a network administrator for Providence. “PowerLink delivers the uptime we require, which has been a huge stress relief. Ecessa analyzed our previous configuration and delivered a low-impact, minimal downtime installation.”
Providence also utilizes the PowerLink as a disaster recovery solution. Should a catastrophe disrupt a primary site, the PowerLink provides failover and the redirection of Internet traffic to the Dallas office as the disaster recovery site. A case in point: Recently, the Dallas cable connection went down for a week. The network was slower than usual, but it was still up and the Providence users never stopped working. Additionally with the PowerLink, Providence saves with the ability to bundle multiple, less expensive ISP connections than having to pay for an expensive T3, resulting in huge savings for the company.
