HOUSTON, April 27, 2009 – The Planet, the global leader in IT hosting, today announced that the DJ Booth (www.djbooth.net) has selected Northstar Managed Hosting platform for its IT infrastructure.  Headquartered in New York, the DJ Booth provides disc jockeys and music aficionados with new urban and hip hop music for their collections. With more than 700,000 visitors each month, the DJ Booth features music releases, often never heard before, from new and emerging artists.  The site also provides extensive commentary on music industry trends.

The DJ Booth relies on reader feedback and rating reviews for its four popular music charts:  hip hop, R&B, rap and underground.  The team reviews releases before they’re posted, then relies on readers to determine where they reside on the charts. The reviews are recognized by record companies, often before artists have been picked up by a label.  DJ Booth also provides tutorials and disc jockey equipment reviews for its readers.

“In our business, we have to be on the cutting edge of the music industry,” said DJ Booth Founder and CEO Dave Macli. “If an artist releases a song and we don’t have it up the next day, our readers tell us we’re not doing our job – and they’re right.  Our team focuses on our core competencies and that’s music, our Web site and our charts.

“That’s why we turned to The Planet, one of the few companies I’ve ever worked with that actually exceeded my expectations early in our relationship. The level of talent they provide us is beyond what I ever imagined. With the Anticipation Advantage methodology, they helped us plan exactly what we needed for our site. The team moves quickly and is always organized, just as we are here at the DJ Booth. Our Northstar team even knew the software we use to support our business and the servers we needed to grow, which lets me focus on the business and our expanding reader base.”

“In any company, time and talent are critical commodities, particularly in today’s difficult economic environment,” said Steve Kahan, vice president of marketing and product management with The Planet. “Our team focuses on maximizing the success of our customers, providing a planning foundation with our Anticipation Advantage methodology.  We help customers evaluate growth plans, so their infrastructure is ready for the future.  That way, in the event of a spike, they simply add servers to accommodate the next trajectory.”

The DJ Booth Snapshot

Founder and CEO Dave Macli began his disc jockey career in college, working at parties and bars where he gained a reputation for playing the best music mix. Macli graduated college, armed with a technology degree and a vision to create an online site that sustained his love of music.  Understanding the dynamic and evolving digital music world, Macli recognized that creating a global community of users, united with a common passion, would be his ticket to success. He also envisioned an outlet for new artists where they could find an interested audience to critique their new releases.

“Living in New York puts us at the core of hip hop, rap and R&B, which is the heart of urban music,” said Macli. “Our readers connect with new artists on our site, providing their own personal evaluations that help our team decide where they should rank on our charts.  With my partner Brian Cizik, who’s known as DJZ, we receive new recordings daily, with features that are three to four months ahead of radio. In fact, some artists have gotten their first break with the DJ Booth and now have recording contracts and a fan following.  So we’ve created a site where trends happen and proliferate throughout the industry.”

According to Macli, he and DJZ are constantly innovating, coming up with new ideas their readers enjoy. Among the features they’ve added are personal interviews with artists, album and artist reviews by DJ Booth DJs, a comprehensive list of featured artists, along with a personalized site for each reader where they can create their own music mix.

“Today I don’t worry about our site, despite the fact that it’s absolutely core to our business,” Macli notes. “DJZ and I focus on the music, delivering content lets our readers be first among their friends with new releases. That’s how we’ve carved our reputation and how we’ll continue to innovate.  The Planet and our dedicated account team make it possible.”
