Barracuda Launches Spam Monitoring Appliance
15:29:36 - 17 January 2005

Barracuda Networks today joined what promises to be the growing ranks of spam-fighting vendors whose products monitor outbound e-mail for spam by announcing Barracuda Spam Firewall - Outbound Edition.

The new version of the company's signature e-mail security appliance enables organizations to block spam, enforce corporate and regulatory policies, and ensure that outgoing email is legitimate and virus-free.

"No organization wants to be the source of spam or viruses," said Barracuda CEO Dean Drako who added, "companies also want to make sure that the content of e-mail, especially if it includes confidential information or trade secrets, is not inappropriately disseminated."

By monitoring outbound e-mail, the Barracuda Spam Firewall - Outbound Edition stops the propagation of viruses that are inadvertently -- or intentionally - sent by enterprise users.

The system also prevents spamming that may be generated from zombie-ized PCs in the enterprise network. The new solution also monitors content for compliance with regulatory and corporate policy requirements.

Asked how he differentiated his company's product's from IronPort's outbound spam- and virus-filtering appliance, Drako said, "Ours is easier to install and easier to administer."

The Barracuda Spam Firewall uses a modified version of the software found in the companies basic product, however it must be purchased as part of a separate, additional hardware product.
