Quest Software Inc. (www.quest.com), a provider of application, database and Windows management solutions, has been ranked the No. 1 Windows Server platform management software provider according to a December 2004 report from Forrester Research.

Windows Server Platform Management, by Principal Analyst Thomas Mendel, PhD., highlights the importance of the Windows Server platform and discusses management opportunities and prospects for independent software providers in the Windows management space.

According to the report, Windows Server will remain the dominant operating system for deployment outside the data center in $1 billion-plus companies. While Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) offers a solution to the monitoring component of Windows Server platform management, Mendel believes that for administration and migration — particularly around Active Directory and Exchange — Microsoft still relies on third parties such as Quest Software to provide additional functionality, and will continue to do so.

"The vast majority of $1 billion-plus companies are now choosing to standardize their distributed computing on the Windows Server platform," Mendel explained in his report.

Quest Software, Microsoft's 2004 Global Independent Software Vendor Partner of the Year, provides solutions that simplify, automate and secure Active Directory, Exchange and Windows environments.
