MINNEAPOLIS, October 30, 2003 -- Digital River, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRIV ), a global leader in e-commerce outsourcing, today announced that it signed an agreement with HealtheTech, Inc. (NASDAQ: HETC), a Colorado-based company that develops and markets technologically advanced and proprietary handheld medical devices for the measurement of metabolism and software for nutrition monitoring. Based on the agreement, Digital River built and launched HealtheTech's new e-commerce page, located at www.healthetech.com, to support the online sales of its proprietary software. Digital River not only hosts the e-commerce site, but also provides order management, digital software delivery, e-marketing and fraud prevention screening.
"We are pleased to host and manage HealtheTech's e-commerce site," said Joel Ronning, Digital River's CEO . "Companies tap our e-commerce expertise for many reasons, including our reliable, world-class e-commerce system and suite of e-commerce services that help our clients create a superior online shopping experience for their customers. Companies also choose Digital River because of the cost-savings associated with our outsourcing model when compared to the expenses of managing an e-commerce operation in-house."
The HealtheTech online store features its BalanceLog ® and GlucoPilot ® software. BalanceLog software allows users to create personalized nutrition and weight management programs based on users' unique metabolisms, and GlucoPilot is a diabetes management application for Windows and Palm OS ® . Both software applications can be purchased with a credit card and then digitally downloaded directly to a consumer's personal computer or handheld device, such as Palm OS.
"Our decision to migrate from an in-house e-commerce operation to an outsourced solution was driven by several factors," said Sandy MacPherson, HealtheTech's general manager and chief marketing officer. "We wanted a more robust and comprehensive system that would enhance the customer experience and extend our current sales and marketing efforts. Not only did Digital River's e-commerce system have the capabilities we were looking for, but the economic value proposition of its outsourcing model also fit the bill. By working with Digital River, we will be able to provide our customers with a high-quality online shopping experience, and increase exposure for HealtheTech's revolutionary products."
