ASHBURN, Va., October 27, 2003 - MCI (WCOEQ, MCWEQ) today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Nortek, a leading commercial and residential building products manufacturer and distributor, by adding new conferencing services to the existing communications solutions the company receives under an exclusive communications agreement with MCI.
Under terms of the agreement, MCI will enable Nortek employees to leverage MCI audio and Net conferencing services to meet and collaborate virtually from locations around the globe. MCI is also delivering local and long distance voice services, frame relay, private line and Internet connectivity, and remote access services to keep the company and its numerous subsidiaries operating and communicating.
"Coordinating communications for our many different lines of business was both time consuming and costly," said Gary Rosenberg, Nortek director of telecommunications. "MCI is aggressively addressing our many new operational needs with a solution that provides a wide array of applications and offers economical travel alternatives like conferencing services."
The Providence, Rhode Island-based company and its subsidiaries use its MCI communications solution for a variety of manufacturing, inventory, office and financial systems. One subsidiary is leveraging MCI data services in conjunction with the Citrix Metaframe Access Suite to integrate and simplify information access across its enterprise network. MCI's conferencing services are being introduced at a time when management is requesting business travel alternatives to reduce travel, especially to regions affected by SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).
"Our commitment to providing innovative communications solutions and customer service is why companies like Nortek do business with us," said Michael Duke, MCI's vice president of commercial markets, Northeast U.S. "Whether a business needs simple voice and data services or a fully managed global network, MCI has the assets and experience to craft high quality solutions for each of its customers."
"Nortek is a private enterprise that takes return on investment as seriously as any public company," said Richard Bready, chairman and chief executive officer of Nortek Inc. "Our adoption of MCI technology enables us to more efficiently operate while we rollout new products and deliver high-quality services - all while positively affecting Nortek's bottom line."
As the premier provider of converged data, IP and voice solutions, MCI empowers enterprises to enhance business processes and collaboration with customers, suppliers, employees, constituents and partners.
