Japan-based ISP Enhances U.S. Operations by Directly Linking to Critical Mass of Networks in Equinix Hub

Foster City, CA - September 22, 2003 Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that JENS (Japan Enhanced Network Services), a provider of Internet connectivity and managed services for businesses in Japan, will move its U.S. interconnection hub to Equinix's Silicon Valley Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center. JENS will leverage direct access to the aggregation of carriers, networks, ISPs, enterprises and content companies in the center to exchange network data traffic and to sell IP connectivity and managed services.

JENS is the first Internet service provider for commercial use in Japan, also providing value added network services, IP telephony and managed services. Through the agreement with Equinix, JENS will directly connect its global network to the wide variety of Internet companies participating in Equinix's Silicon Valley Internet hub via the Equinix GigE Exchange™ service. Equinix GigE Exchange is an efficient central switching fabric that facilitates interconnection between strategic partners for data exchange, or "peering," and the selling of transit services. The service significantly lowers the costs of traditional transit and peering arrangements by reaching partners within a single, centralized and neutral environment rather than by establishing several point-to-point communications with partners in multiple, disparate locations.

Peering is a fundamental element of the Internet's infrastructure that improves the performance of the Internet for all users by enabling data to pass from one network to another without intermediary networks or bottlenecks. Increasingly, as pressure builds to lower costs while improving network performance, peering has become an essential element of most network strategies and is a central element in JENS decision to move to Equinix.

"Equinix's network-rich center enables us to more efficiently execute our strategic peering relationships with key partners in the U.S.," said Mizuho Takai, CEO of JENS. "In addition to reducing our interconnection costs, Equinix also provides us with an operational platform that can scale to accommodate our rapidly expanding U.S. operations."

"The addition of JENS to the Equinix ecosystem offers a leading provider of IP network services within Japan to Equinix's rich, diverse customer base of IBX participants that now includes every major global network and 8 of the 10 top content companies," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. "Equinix has been successful in attracting over 40 international ISPs to the GigE Exchange service and JENS will be a valuable addition to our peering community."
