An Interview with
Milind Pandit, VP Marketing, Purplenova

August 07, 2007

What is the main product or service that you offer?

Our current product is Purplenova, which allows users to web-host any content directly from any PC without limits. The content could be web sites, applications, albums, blogs, podcasts, etc.

So what is the key problem that you solve for the majority of your customers?

Presently, it is not possible to web-host from 99.9% of world's computers, which is why people need to host with ISPs. Our technology solves the underlying problem of network restrictions that will now allow web hosting directly from any PC.

Please give an overview/background of your organisation in two or three sentences. Please include how long you have been in business and a key commercial indicator such as turnover or size of customer base (if you can release that information) so that we get a feel for the size and scope of your business.

Our vision is to enable every Internet-connected device to serve web-content securely and easily. Serving content from the PC is the first step towards achieving this vision. We are one year old company with some of the most talented and dedicated individuals. We have partnered with a few large and small organizations to offer our product to their end users. However, at this point we cannot disclose their names and deal sizes.

What are the advantages and limitations of a home- or office-hosted website?

Advantages – Users are in full control. No uploads and no restriction on disk space. Users can host as much as they want. They are only limited by the size of the hard disks. Also, Purplenova is not limited only to websites.

Limitations – This solution is not suitable for high-intensity e-commerce sites.

What is new about the new version of Purplenova 3.1? How can your current users upgrade to it?

In the new version, we are supporting domain name pointing. For example, if you have a domain name as www.yourname.com, new version will allow you to point that domain name to your PC. In addition 3.1 has significant performance improvements. Upgrading is very simple. All user has to do is, to map his/her domain name to the website residing in his/her folder with a single click.
