According to ReadWriteWeb, the five big data center trends this year are blade servers, green tech, virtualization, scalable cloud platforms, and Linux in the enterprise. In the full article, you can read their rationale for choosing these technologies. Their choices are pretty spot-on, when compared with the opinions hosting company executives have expressed when talking to HostReview. They have not talked explicitly only about blade servers, but this is probably more on the hardware side, and our questions have been about service and general technology trends. Green hosting, virtualization, open source, and cloud computing are mentioned again and again in our interviews, so if that is any indication, ReadWriteWeb's list is correct. Here's what the authors have to say about their pick for the most important data center trend:
"We tend to think that scalability is going to be a big issue going forward, especially with the growth of web apps and their specific infrastructure needs. We've already seen what lack of scalability can do to a service - we almost lost Twitter, for example, as demand outpaced their ability to provide the service." Scalability is a safe bet, but what do you think?
