The global volume of junk e-mail went down by a double digit percentage on Tuesday, after web hosting company McColo Corp. was cut off from the internet. The company, located in Northern California, had been identified by security experts as a major host of spam operations.

The Washington Post reports that two major internet service providers--Global Crossing and Hurricane Electric, turned off MoColo's connectivity to the internet. According to spam tracking services, including Spamcop.net, the volume of junk email worldwide plummeted yesterday. There are indications, however, that spam traffic is on the rise again.
