Cloud Server: A Progressing Need In Modern-Day Businesses

2015-03-26by Ricoh India

The very idea of cloud hosting appears ubiquitous in present-day world as most of us are dependent on demand-based computing for the proper management of our digital lives surrounded with a variety of devices such as tablets, mobiles, laptops- whether we are at home or in the office. In-fact, the remarkable features and benefits of cloud makes it an unavoidable part of the picture.  Prior considering anything else, let’s just focus on some important terminologies like:

Cloud Server: It can be referred as a server that can be exploited for providing computing resources. Basically, these are servers that are connected together for providing a single source of computing server, from where cloud services can get their resources.

Cloud Computing: It implies towards the computing services whereby computing power is offered as on-demand service through a public network- generally the internet. In a broader sense, cloud services can be categorized into three basic models:

  1. Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS): It includes gathered physical cloud server and networking resource. They are provided with all the relevant resources like RAM, disk space, bandwidth, processing power pinched from underlying collaborative cloud servers instead of providing users a unique physical server. All such platforms can be configured and used for the installation of software, platforms, and frameworks etc, required for delivering IT services and develop software applications.
  2. Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) : It includes the virtual software platforms with the use of network resources and collaborative cloud servers. These services offer the pooled physical resources of IaaS together with the software bundles over a virtualized world whereby a user gets preconfigured platform, which can be used for creating new IT applications.
  3. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS): It includes the cloud-based applications delivered by using collaborative resources of computing. This is often referred as most familiar epitome of cloud computing as it includes applications like cloud storage, gamified solutions, web-based e-mail that are provided as a service. Such applications are web-based and can be operated over cloud so that end-users can access them through internet without any need of downloading software.

Coming back to the features that have made cloud a hottest trend in the industry, some of them are listed below:

    1) Reliability: Investment on cloud services is really a worth as you can work stress-free knowing that all your data is safe with cloud storage, even if any disaster hits.

    2) Scalability: Business requirements keep on changing, more often extending, and here, cloud plays quite well as it grows with your needs. In simple words, size of cloud has a direct relationship with your requirements.

    3) Cost-efficiency: Cloud-based applications come with customizable features; so is there pricing package as you will need to pay only for the features integrated in your service package.

    4) Easy deployment: Applications of cloud have a sole requirement of internet connection and you are sorted. Gone are the days when you need to worry about hardware requirements and appropriate software applications. In-fact, you can access cloud-based applications from anywhere, at anytime you want to.
