Why You Need VPS For Your Wordpress

2014-10-21by Rakesh Mistry

My friend who is a well known blogger shifted to VPS because of a nasty experience she encountered while using the shared hosting- anyway that will come later. Let us handle serious issues first. Yes, it is a well-known fact that Wordpress is among the best platforms and everyone involved in blogging should think of using it. However, this platform is not just for bloggers but it is ideal for eCommerce, corporate intranets and the big publishing houses. A virtual private server is more of a standalone server which is dedicated to you alone but the services are offered at relatively low costs. The reason why they call it a virtual server is because it does not have any real hardware on its own. It uses resources from a bigger server.

Usually, website running on VPS is easy since the user uses the resources without having to share it with other users. So, why did my friend shift to VPS? We thought that this was a case of seeing "greener grass on the other side of the fence". Someone warned that if you see the grass on the other side appearing greener, your eyes could be lying to you. Few of us knew about VPS at the time and we warned her about the €angel€ she did not know. My friend having gone through a few setbacks with her shared hosting had made up her mind that she wanted change to a virtual private server - and change it was- it came with incredibly unbelievable benefits.

1. Satisfactory performance.
One of the most important things in a website is performance. No matter how big your website is, as long as it is unable to meet the overall needs of the targeted audience it will be a disappointment. That means the user will need to get help so as to boost its performance. A great performance means a good user experience and high SEO rankings. The problem with a shared server is that a website tends to have memory leak problems or other technical problems. It becomes even more irritating when you try to seek help and it is not forthcoming, actually this was the main reason which made my friend to shift from shared hosting. A VPS hosting solved all these problems at one go.

2. Reliability.
My friend had a dynamic blog which demanded flexible hosting. That means she had to be able to install whatever she needed whenever she needed it. For instance, whenever she required a specific script to give her users a better experience, a VPS came in handy. A VPS offers you the opportunity to be in full control of your own server which allows you to do whatever you want when you want. In other words you are in control of your resources and you can increase or decrease them depending on the current need.

3. More uptime.
This is the main reason why many companies have shifted to cheap VPS. Any website owner wants his website to be available always and not down sometimes and up other times. When my friend used shared hosting there are times it would take up to ten seconds for her website to load. She lost many followers that time. After shifting to VPS she has experienced consistency in the availability of the website and right now she is on top of things. Actually one of the reasons why a website can experience this problem is if the neighboring sites are getting more traffic than expected. That means as long as you are using a shared hosting chances are your site will be affected by the ones you are sharing with. A VPS hosting guarantees more uptime than a shared one. You understand why my friend sings VPS praises to all her friends.
